#African #economies, international news, and more!

So I am in the middle of pruning through a bazillion old photographs in preparation for a photo series I want to show you all. Needless to say, I picked way too many photos, and now this is becoming a really involved (and possibly overthinky) process, but I am trying to get those posts up as soon as I can. In the meantime, I was in gorgeous Bermuda last weekend, and now have even more photographs to muddle through and show you... yikes!

But I found a couple of interesting articles to share with you guys while I pull the rest of my bloggy life together!

This is a beautifully-written piece about going to Venice to try and pull your life back together. You want a good sentence? Try: "Throughout all of this reduction, I had the grim happiness of becoming completely aware of myself, of having the workings of my body and mind opened to me, like a house being aired out for the first time in years." THIS.

Finally, an article that recognizes the impressive economic strides that have been made in Africa. Of course, I am always skeptical of pieces like this, because a lot of foreign-controlled companies with foreign workforces have moved into African nations to lower costs, but the overall point is still there - Africa is undergoing major change and our ideas of it as one homogenous, war-torn region are seriously out of date.

And this piece has me wanting to write a similar piece from my own point of view - what has drawn me to different places, and whether I got what I wanted from them.

Also, some people have asked me what my favorite sources are for international/travel news, and so I want to give a shout-out to some of my favorites right now: The Guardian, Al-Jazeera English, the BBC, the Washington Post, and Matador are all top sites that I check regularly for world news. The US is known for being really isolated in terms of news, and so I find that I really have to seek out international sources, or I'd never know what was happening outside my own borders! If you know of an awesome news source that I should start reading, please leave it in the comments!
