Le Diner en Blanc... au #Boston!

I don't know if you have heard of Le Diner en Blanc, but if you haven't, you should go click this link right now! Aside from some ridiculous photography, it explains the history and tradition of this very cool event, which I was lucky enough to be at last night!

For those of you who didn't click the link, the Diner is a pop-up picnic! A truly massive number of people all agree to dress up in white, and cart their own dinners, table, and chairs to the event site, which is kept a secret by the organizers until you arrive. The idea is that it is a sophisticated little party - and I think for it's first time doing this, my hometown really did it up right! Over 700 people showed up, following the dress code with panache (top hats? Suspenders? Peace sign belts?  Check, check, and check). Folks packed really nice picnics - mine included caprese salad, pasta imported from Italy, and a dessert of brie and fruit. My old friend Laura (who now writes for the very cool Untapped Cities) was my date, and we sipped Champagne and enjoyed the music and gorgeous view... because our picnic was at the Moakley Courthouse. For those of you who think a courthouse doesn't sounds very romantic, you clearly haven't seen ours.

Wondering where we'll end up...

After dinner was a rockin' dance party, and then the epic schlep home (I think schlepping is the one thing I would prefer were less epic, overall...!). I cheated and took a taxi...

I wish my photo could convey the party atmosphere better...
And what I really loved was the emphasis on loving and respecting your city - I didn't see any bad behavior, and despite BOTH Laura and I accidentally leaving our cameras out while we danced, nothing was disturbed in the slightest. Way to go, Boston! Apparently I am now "on the list," and I think this means I could go to the one in Paris next year... fingers crossed!

Have you ever been to a pop-up party?  Tell me all about it!  I am seriously thinking that my upcoming birthday might require one...
