Travel photo porn, Welsh Elvish, and seeing the world's biggest anything...

Adore.

It's been a while since I did a links post up here (confession: It's been awhile since I've had a chance to catch up on some of my favorite travel sites!), so here's one for y'all today!

Hilarious signs on train etiquette down under - and I adore that the first comment is someone saying that Boston needs these.  Boston SO DOES.

London is rocking a very cool beer scene these days - hell, I always thought it was cool.  But it speaks to my number 2 travel rule (after don't-dress-for-the-jungle-unless-you're-IN-the-damn-jungle), which is to always drink the local booze!

This blog just made me laugh, because the premise is that a family will travel around looking for the "World's Biggest" anything.  I die.

In do-gooding news, a North Korean defector is now running balloon launches of socks over the border from South Korea, to help people on the lower social rungs get these sadly very valuable commodities.

In man-I-need-to-visit-Wales-someday news, there is a very cool movement there promoting foraging for food.  Mainly, I am interested in Wales because my gran was Welsh, and my stepdad grew up there, and... well, Welsh sounds like Elvish.  And that's AWESOME.*

And last but most def NOT least, one of my pet peeves - travel photo porn.  Travel photo porn is a phrase I hadn't heard before but I have always hated the practice - photos that don't give any real information, or worse, that generically and blandly represent a place or people (“the small Thai man with the broad smile,” what a great example!).  It's something I fight against in my writing, and something I am glad photographers are thinking about.  In fact, if you have a photo from your travels that you think is/is not travel porn, send it to me!  I'd love to take a look and learn more, and if I get enough, I will happily put them up here!

And once more:  I am halfway to my goal in raising money for the Special Olympics, but I still need $500!  Please help me raise it, as this website makes no money and I can't do it alone... THANK YOU!

*I didn't actually know Elvish was based on Welsh until I googled the phrase "Welsh sounds like Elvish."  I am a SUPERGENIUS.
