So, if you read this blog, you know I am a huge fan of Patrick Smith, the man behind the "Ask the Pilot" column over at salon.com. He's an experienced pilot, and does a great job of making air travel and the air travel industry understandable to us lay folks. (You can see previous pieces of his that I have referenced here, here, and here.)
I just found this great NPR interview with him online, with callers asking him about their most common fears and skepticisms, and wanted to share it (there is also a transcript at the bottom). Since I am a fearful flyer, I've found a lot of comfort in Capt. Smith's commonsense translation of air travel from the crew's perspective!
