Travel and social justice

I've been thinking a lot about the links between travel and social justice lately -- a lot of those themes can already be found on this blog, here, here, and here, for example.  I would really love to hear from you all about other ways in which you see travel and social issues intersecting.

There are some big topics, such as environmentalism (do you buy your carbon offsets when your fly?), cultural appropriation (I must recommend this piece by The Vintage Traveler), and behavior surrounding beggars (this one has some great points).  But I want to know, what else are we missing in the discussion?

For me, a major one is women's safety abroad (and, well, at home), as well as the provenance of all those trinkets you bring home as souvenirs.  But I bet my readers can come up with some other great ones -- I'd love to hear about them in the comments, or on my Twitter!
