Women staying safe while traveling

another strong female traveller conquers a mountain!

Just found this on the New York Times site, and really loved it.  I have such a mega intolerance for people harassing me on the street, and it is truly sad how street harassment is a basic part of everyday life for women.

(Side note: I had a wonderful illuminating talk with my flatmate last week about this, and he really didn't see what was wrong with calling out to a girl on the street.  He changed his mind by the end, though, and went on to ask his girlfriend if she got harassed regularly.  She said yes, and he has now become quite protective!  See guys, a little education can go a long way!)

I've cited ihollaback on the blog before, but if you haven't checked it out, give it a look.  And also, my friend Sarah from Yes and Yes just wrote an ebook on solo travel for women. Her Wanderlust Workbooks are also really great -- check them out (and hey, I am even quoted on her site!).

And as always, happy trails!
